Your identity and your messages live only on this phone. Switching to a different build of TRI1 means uninstalling the one you have, and that erases them. Nobody can bring them back, not even us. That is the point of TRI1, and it is why this step matters.
- Open TRI1 → My TRI1 ID → Settings → Export identity backup
- Save that file somewhere that isn’t your phone. Email it to yourself, or put it in Drive.
- Install the new version, then import the file. Same ID, same contacts.
Do this every time you switch. The Google Play version and this download are signed with different keys, so Android treats them as two separate apps. You can have one or the other, never both.

Same app, same encryption, same identity, whichever route you take. You never need an app store. Only one of these three involves one, and it is optional. On iPhone, or anywhere else, open the web app and there is nothing to install at all.

TRI1 is live on Google Play and open to everyone. No tester list, no invitation, no email to us.
The Play copy is a slightly older release than the .apk above, because store review takes a few days. An updated version is on the way next week. If you want the newest build today, use the direct download.
Pick one and stay with it: Play and this .apk cannot update over each other. Export your identity backup before you ever switch.
iPhone & iPad
iOS 16.4 or newer
The iPhone app is in open beta through TestFlight, Apple’s own testing app, while the App Store listing is in review. Anyone can join, and there is no invitation to wait for.
- On your iPhone, install TestFlight from the App Store. It is free and made by Apple.
- Open the link below on the iPhone itself, then tap Accept.
- Tap Install, open TRI1, and create your identity. That is the whole setup.
Opening the link on a computer only shows the TestFlight page. It has to be the iPhone. Beta builds expire after 90 days and TestFlight will prompt you to update.
Web app
Any browser, any device
Open TRI1 in a browser and use it straight away. Nothing to download, nothing to allow, and it works on a laptop, an iPad, or a phone of any kind.
Messages and calls are encrypted in the browser exactly as they are in the app, and your keys stay in that browser.
Best for trying TRI1 in a minute. For calls that ring while the app is closed, install the phone app instead.

- Create your TRI1 ID on first launch. Your keys are generated and stay only on your device.
- Back it up and keep it safe. Your private keys never leave your device, and your backup is the only way to restore your account.
- Share your ID or QR from the “My ID” tab so friends can add you.
- Add a contact from the Contacts tab: enter their TRI1 ID, or scan or pick their QR code.
- Send a message. Every chat is end-to-end encrypted automatically.
- Start a call with the call icon, then choose Audio or Video. Encrypted and peer-to-peer.

Every TRI1 build is signed with our private release key. Android checks that signature automatically when you install. If a single byte is altered, the install is rejected. You can also verify it yourself:

What is a TRI1 ID?
A TRI1 ID is your public key written in a form you can share. It is safe to post anywhere. It lets people start an end to end encrypted chat or call with you, and it is the only thing you ever hand out. The private half never leaves your device, so nobody, including us, can use your ID to read your messages.
Can I add a contact by scanning a QR code?
Yes. Open My TRI1 ID, show your QR code, and the other person scans it in the app to add you instantly. It is the fastest way to swap contacts in person, at an event or across a counter, with no numbers exchanged.
Does TRI1 work without a SIM card or a phone number?
Yes. TRI1 needs an internet connection and nothing else. It runs on a phone with no SIM, on a wifi-only tablet, and in any browser at app.tri1space.com. There is no SMS code to receive, so there is no number to trace, port or SIM swap.
